Business case preparation
We have supported organisations with the production of Treasury approved 5-case model business cases for schemes exceeding £120m in value, supporting and advising project teams from original concept, providing scrutiny and additional governance, through to Trust approvals. Where values dictate that external approvals are required, the team can provide further support and guidance through the subsequent NHSI process.
Programme and project management
Our team have many years of experience managing individual projects or larger programmes and are Prince 2 practitioners. We have a broad knowledge base across a background of previous NHS roles in acute, primary care, mental health and general practice. This knowledge includes service or departmental reconfiguration, ICT system procurement and deployment, capital estates developments, organisational change etc.
Options appraisals
We can assist organisations wishing to explore options to find alternative approaches to service delivery, infrastructure requirements and IT system change. Outputs from options appraisals are presented in approved Treasury format so that organisations can build on this important element of work to inform the production of any subsequent business case requirements.

ABOUT
Focusing On What Matters Most
Rob Ryan has over 20 years of project and programme management experience and has consulted for a number of acute, mental health and primary care NHS organisations covering a wide variety of projects and subject matter. These include business case development, service & site reconfiguration, options appraisals, procurement of services, equipment and systems, contracts and equipping & commissioning activities. Rob particularly specialises in high value business case preparation, including those requiring NHSE/I approvals.
Since forming Rob Ryan Consulting Ltd in October 2018, the business has established an excellent reputation for delivering cost effective, high quality outcomes for NHS Trusts. Since the very first contract at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, preparing an options appraisal and subsequent business case for the radiology service, the portfolio of successfully delivered projects continues to grow along with the expanding and impressive range of NHS clients. Current projects include preparing business cases and running procurement for a Managed Equipment Service (MES) to support the Radiology Department at King’s College Hospital and a selection of business cases, options appraisals and capital projects for both North Middlesex and Hillingdon hospitals.
Working with Rob is Liz Ryan who has 24 years post registration experience in healthcare. Rob additionally has associate consultants able to provide specialised support across a number of other projects. Rob is therefore able to flex his team, bringing in additional, targeted and relevant experience when it is required. This meets varying client needs and enables Rob Ryan Consulting to provide resource to senior NHS stakeholders where there are competing demands on their time, or they have identified a need for relevant experience to support specific elements of a project.
